The gearbox on the FSTi has always been a bit whiny on cold mornings, generally needs 10-15 miles driving to warm up and quieten down. Having a quite a lot of cold mornings recently I thought it was time to do something about it, noise in my book means friction which can't be good, and I'm doing a lot of short trips at the mo.: besides which it was due for a 30,000mile change anyway. Did a bit of research and it seemed that some of the high performance synthetic oils might be better, so it was time to spend most of this month's £60 on 5l of Motul Gear 300 (which smells awful ). Good news is, it really seems to have done the trick, it's MUCH quieter now. All I need to do now is replace the gear linkage bushes to get rid of the side to side wobble......
